SOCCER.

Championship Points. At the fortnightly meeting of the Poverty Bay Football Association, held last Tuesday, it was decided to bring the Competition to a close. Y.M.A.C., therefore, were declared the winners, having won every game played. The final position ol the clubs that competed in the competition is as follows : Gls G’s Ch. P. W. L D. For Ag Pts Y.M A.C. ... 7 7 O' 0 38 5 14 G.T.'A. ... 6 4 2 0 41 12 8 County ... 6 4 2 0 3 34 4 Tartvheru ... 5 1 4 0 o 18

To-day’s Game. Y.M.A.C. (champion for 1912) versus Challenge Team. The following are the teams :

Y.M'. A.C. (from the following) : Wright, A. Webster, Gardner (2), Hollands, Hosier, Hughes, Wilson, W inks, Greene, Windebank, G. Webster, G. James and Frazer.

Challenge Team: —Renwick, Himwick, Black, Archibald, Hanna, J. Stone, Downic, Bind, Fryer, Sharpies, Shields; reserves, Crightou, Slingsby, T. Hanna, Wallace. Referee: Mr 51cColl.

Comments. It is a noticeable fact that three out of the four reserves selected for the Challenge Team were amongst the first picked to represent Poverty Bay in the Brown Shield match! against Canterbury recently

A New Competition. The decision to play a fivosa-sid© tournament is rather an unusual one. Games of this description are usually composed of six-a-side teams, which seems to be the best way of playing these games.

Brown Shield Topics. Last Saturday was a bad day for Hawke’s Bay, Wellington met and defeated them in Wellington to the extent of _8 goals to' 2.

The Wellingtonians were not representative of football as played in Wellington. As a matter-of-fact only two of the team which mot and defeated Hawke’s Bay are considered to be classev enough to meet Canterbury in the Brown Shield match to be played shortly

It is true that Dyke, at full-back for Hawke’s Bay, who so a Lily kept out the Poverty Bay attack last June, was hot playing, nevertheless, it- is easily seen that Wellington were too good for our near neighbors.

Wanganui meet Canterbury to-day in a Brown Shield contest.

Mr McGillwray has lidon appointed by the N.Z.R.A. to take charge of the game. Mr McGillwray is a. capable referee, and it is quite certain that the best team will win.

Personally, I do not think that Canterbury will be severely taxed in this game, judging by the display given by Wanganui in their game against our own lads recently.
