FATAL ACCIDENT AT MATAWHERO.
LITTLE GIRL KILLED
A fatal accident occurred at Matawbero yesterday morning when a little girl, 9 years of age, named Maud Bissell, lost her life. ' It appears that the deceased was riding to school with a number of other children in Mr B. Fitzpatrick’s waggon, to which was attached another waggon that was being brought to town for repans. Some of the children attempted to cross from one waggon to the other, and in' so doing Maud Bissell fell, the wheels of the waggon passing over her head, inflicting fatal injuries. She was brought to Sister Wallis’ hospital, but died just as she reached the institution.
An inquest will be bold at the Magistrate’s Court at 11.30 this morning.
MOTOR CAR AND CYCLIST COLLIDE.
A rather serious accident occurred in Ormond Road yesterday morning when Air W. J. Sinclair, manager for Messrs Turnbull and Jones’ local branch, received a compound fracture of the arm and was bruised severely. He was cycling along the road when he came into collision with a motor car belonging to Mr D. O'Dwyer. _ It appeal's that Mr Sinclair was coming along the south side of Ormond Road and passed a car driven by Mr Chas. Busckc near Taylor's store. Evidently lie did not notice Mr O’Dwyer’s car, which was coming from town and the cyclist and motor car collided with the result that the car went over Mr Sinclair. He was dragged a little distance and sustained a compound fracture of the arm, besides being bruised about the face and body. His bicycle was also considerably damaged. He was removed to the Rostrevor Hospital and at latest inquiries was progressing favorably.
