"THIS IS HORRIBLE.”
WHEN ROSENTHAL WAS KILLED BECKER’S READINESS TO COMMIT CRIME. [INDEPENDENT P«.ESS CABLE.] NEW YORK. Aug. 15. Harry Vallon and Bridgie Webber, two of tlie men alleged to have been implicated in the murder of Herman Rosenthal, have been threatened with death if they make any confession. These men, therefore, are likely to prove recalcitrant witnesses. None of Lieutenant Becker’s .blackmailing employees seem to care if they bang their chief. In fact they have sent word to Rose, Webber, and Vallon that they will throw Becker to the. wolves. Jack Rose has made a statement in which he declares that Becker had decided to kill Rosenthal himself. When ho mot Booker after the murder Rose exclaimed. “My God, Charlie, this is horrible. There’ll he Hades to pay 1” Backer replied. “Leave all to me,” Rose then asked him whether he had seen Rosenthal, and .Becker answered, “Vos, I saw the squealing —. I would have liked to take my knife and cut his tongue out and hang it on a building as a warning to. all possible future squealers. I get tired waiting' for you fellows, and would have- done it myself.”
The eo ronor’s inquest into the shooting of Herman Rosenthal has begun, but it is understood that the proceed-
ings .will he ladjouiiied in view of the indictments that are about to be filed against those implicated in the crime.
