DISTRICT NEWS.

TE ARAI. (By Our Travelling .Reporter.) The annual meeting of the Te Arai Public Hall Committee, which was to have been held last evening; lapsed for want- of a quorum. This is to be regretted, as the site for the proposed hall has been secured and paid for, and it was. confidently anticipated that the matter would be definitely settled. However, another opportunity will be given the Te Arai settlers to discuss this important question, as the meeting was postponed for a week (the date of which will be advertised in the “Gisborne Times”)) when it is hoped there will be a large attendance to decide what steps should be taken to establish what is urgently needed in this rapidly-rising district. Mr. T .Preston last evening offered to give £o towards the proposed hall ■if other prominent settlers would do likewise.

Messrs Baldwin and Ray ward, Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin, report that amongst the many Applications for patents they have just filed are:—A. F. rlalbot, Christchurch. Hep-ladder; J. Hargreaves, Auckland, bath; G. Mackie Kaimata, curd agitator; W. J. Hagi’C, Wellington, billiard diningtable ; A.-Denclist, Christchurch, indicator money-box.*
