N.Z. LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP

[PEE PEESS ASSOCIATION.] NELSON, Aug. 29. The 18th Ladies’ Gold Championship tournament of New Zealand, under the management of the Ladies’ Golf Union, was opened at the Taliuna links to-day. The weather was ■unfavorable. There was a good entry of golfers, although not so many as at the last meeting. Those present included Miss L., Brandon (the present champion), Mrs. Guy Williams (probably the most experienced* player competing), Miss Snodgrass (West Coast champion), Miss Gould (last year’s runner-up), Mrs. Slack (1910 runner-up), Miss E. Ledger (Nelson champion), Miss Gorrie (Auckland and Napier champion), and Miss Pearey-(who was defeated in the semi-final last year). The opening event was the first round of the championship, which was played in the morning. In the afternoon a stroke handicap, senior* and junior, was played. Neither of the event's produced good scores.
