COMMERCIAL.
MATAWHERO STOCK SALE. The Matawhero stock sales were held yesterday. There was a good attendance and a fairly large entry of stock of all classes. Altogether 7600 sheep, 310 head of cattle, and 87 pigs were penned, and they met with a good demand. —Fat Cattle.— There were fire fat cattle offered, and four bullocks made £7 2s 6d and one cow £5 ss. —Fat Sheep.— There was a fair entry of fat sliec-p, and they met with a good sale. Wethers made up to 17s 2d and ewes from 13s 6d to 16s 6d, the latter being the highest price realised for ewes this year. Among the sales weren—Mothers: 28 at 17s 2d. Ewes: 85 at 16s 6d, 30 at 15s 3d, 9 at 14s, 10 at 14s 9d, 9 at 13s 6d. —Store Sheep.— The yarding of store sheep was fair, and it included a large proportion of hoggets, for which there was poor demand, and late rates were not maintained. Empty ewes met with a satisfactory sale. Ewes in lamb were in fair demand. Among the sales were: 50 ewes in lamb 14s Id. 77 do. 16s 6d. 122 forward ewes 12s Id, 70 do. 12s 6d. 269 small hoggets 9s 4d, 28 forward wethers 17s Id, 40 empty ewes 9s 6d. 46 ewes in lamb 12s, 200 hoggets 12s 6d, 59 do. 14s 7d. IS ewes in lamb 16« 6d, 7-1 small hoggets 9s, 34 hoggets 10s, 11 small hoggets 9s 9d, 25 ewes in lamb 17s 8d 52 do. 16s sd, 601 'hoggets 13s. Hoggets passed in from 12s to 13s 6d, and a line of 546 wethers passed at 16s 6d. 140 ewes and lambs 13s. 162 hoggets 12s 9d. 112 do. 11s Scl. 59 2-tooth ewes 12s 9d, 20 do. 12s 3d. A line of 723 hoggets passed in at 12s 9d. —Figs.—
There was a very large entry of pigs, but the market was dull. Porkers made from 25s to Sts. —Store and Dairy Cattle. — The yarding of store and dairy cattle was fair, and animals of good quality sold. well. The poorer classes, however, were neglected. Among the sales were:—2 dairy heifers £6 os, 1 do. £8 15s, 2 do. £8 7s 6d, 1 do. £7 12s Gd, 1 heifer £3, 27 steers £2 19s Gel, 23 heifers £2 7s, 6 springing heifers £5 os, 5 wearier calves 335, 32 do. 36;, 1 old cow 355, 2 heifers 38s, 2 steers £2 4s, 7 cows £3, 9 heifers £2 13s. 11 do. £3 6s, 22 do. £2 12s 6d, 14 I'oiled Angus cows £4 10s, 16 cows £3 17s.
