THE ASSOCIATION GAME. FIV E-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT. SATURDAY'S PLAY. 'I ho first matches in the five-a-side tournament were played on Saturday. I here aro now three teams to play in the semi-final, which will he piayo-d next Saturday. The matches on Saturday resulted as follow: G.T.A. A. (A) heat Taruheru (2). Y.M.A.C. A. (A) beat County A. (o>. G.T.A. B (A) heat County B (0;
Taruheru A. mot G.T.A. A. in the opening match and after an exciting game were defeated by A goals to 2. Just after the commencement of the game AY. Hanna, who was playing goal for G.T.A. fell and dislocated his hip and was taken to the hospital. Inquiries made last night showed that he was progressing as favorably as could be expected. Another slight accident occurred to Davis playing for Taruheru, who fell and twisted his knee. Archibald replaced Hanna and W'hitely Davis. The teams were:—G.T.A. : AY. Hanna, Bard. "Wallace, Shields and 'l'. Hanna. Taruheru: Crichton, Sharpies. Stathnm. Bardswell and Davis.
From the bounce the pace became fast. G.T.A. carried the hall down the field and Statham returned. Davis secured well down and carried the hull into the goal. Hanna cleared ■and Davis returned and in attempting to clear once more fell and was injured. Sharpies scoured the ball and scored. Shields obtained possession and after a good run down the Held drew first blood for G.T.A. From the bounce G.T.A. carried the ball into Taruheru territory and secured a penalty kick. Burd. with a. good low shot-, found the net. Davis made a good run, hut fell and twisted his •knee. Half time was called shortly after. Shields and Wallace engaged in a short run down the field, the hitter scoring. Stathnm took a free kick for Taruheru and passed to Bardswell, ■ who scored. G.T.A. forced the pace and carried play into Taruheru territory, where Shields scored. Y.M.A.CV A. secured an ease win over County A. by 5 goals to nil. The following were the teams: Y. A TAX’. : A. \yebster. Frazer. G. Webster, Winks and -T. Hughes. County: Stone, Marshall, Menzies. Hodgson and Dick.
From the start the Reds carried play in to County territory and Stone handled the ball and Y.AL secured a. penalty. Winks took the kick and placed the hall in the net. A'.ALA.C. again 'forced the pace and Webster, heating Stone. scored. From the bounce the hall went out to Afenzies, who raced down the line and obtained a. corner, hut failed to make nse of it. Comity rallied and Dick secured and took the hall down the field, hut shot wide. Half time was then called. On commencing after the spell Y.AI.A.C. made a hot attack on County’s goal. Stone clearing. Winks returned to the attack and with a-well-placed kick scored for the Reds. County made a fruitless attack oil the Red's goal and A. Webster was called on to save. The hall went out to G. Webster, who made for the goal. He succeeded in drawing the goal keeper out. but- with a clear field shot over the bar. A .AL again attacked and Winks added a couple of good goals in succession. The whistle sounded shortly afterwards. .G.T.A. B. met and defeated County B. by b goals to nil after an uninteresting game. The- following were the tennis: G.T.A.: —A est, Fryer, Wallen, Berwick, Clark. County: Rarminter. Alenzies, Hodgson, Binnie and Barnfather. From the start G.T.A. forced play and West scored. Alenzies secured the. hall and made a good run down the field, hut was unsupported. Fryer obtained the hall and after a good run scored. G.T.A. returned to the attack, West again scoring. Half time was then called. On re-commencing County rallied, hut failed to score. G.T.A. pressed and secured a free kick. Renwick took the kick and. with a long high shot scored. G.T.A. again pressed and Fryer scored. County were attacking when the whistle sounded. Air AfaeColl refereed till games in an efficient manner.
