“KISSING POINT.”

The romantic theory tliat Kissing Point, on tlic Parramatta River, near Sydney, derived its title from the act of a sprightly lady who kissed Governor Hunter while ho was asleep after dinner is not, according to Mr "Walter Hobble, confirmed by historical facts. In an interesting paper on the early history of that locality, delivered before tlie Australian Historical 'Society a fortnight ago, Mr. nibble declared that his researches showed that the point was so named because the gallant Governor, on finding his boat stranded on the shoal now marked by a beacon, carried the ladies of tinparty ashore in his arms, and kissed his first passenger on setting her safely upon dry land. Mr. Hibblo considered Kissing Point of greater historical interest even than Parramatta itself. "
