BOROUGH COUNCIL NOMINEES.
(TO THE EDITOR.)
Sir,—l wish yon to understand I am not a writer to the press, or on any public body, but reading your paper every morning, and noting the local political correspondence, I have come to the conclusion that I, as one of the very oldest residents, should not allow this correspondence to proceed without expressing my opinion. 1 know Dr. Collins, the ex-Council-tor, and I also know Mr John Sheridan, and I wonder why the ratepayers give any consideration to the latter gentlemen’s views on local politics. It is allowing a would-be dictator to think for them. We refused him as our Mayor, and again later would not accept him as a common ordinary Councillor, and yet he has the presumption to try' and dictate to us as to whom we shall appoint to the present vacancy in the Council caused by Dr. Collins’ resignation. I have not a single word to say against Mr Colley personally, but as Mr .T. Sheridan's nominee I shall vote for the Doctor, the ablest man we have had on our Council. —I am, etc., “OLD RESIDENT.”
