OPENING OF NEW TEA ROOMS
A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION
Some 60 persons were the guests of Airs L. AI. AlcCormiek, proprietress of “Tho Burlington” luncheon and supper rooms in Webb’s Buildings at a banquet in honor of the opening oi tho new rooms last evening. The rooms, which occupy the sec one. and third floors of the building, have been most tastefully furnished, and the tables looked particularly invitinglast evening. Pot plants, stalks, and sweet peas were used in the decorations, with tasteful effect, while a largo bank of lilies, symbolising the innocence of man, was used as a. centre piece. A dainty button-hole was also provided for each guest. 'I he floral decorations were carried out by Miss Barnes, and reflected much credit on that lady’s taste.
His Worship the Mayor (Air AV. Pettie) presided, and among those present were Crs. Bright, Hepburn. Wade. Smith. Sawyer. Webb, and Air R. D. B. Robinson (Town Clerk)-
The following toast-list was submitted:—“The King,” “The Mayor and Councillors,” proposed by Air J. S. Allan and responded to by.the Mayor and Crs. Hepburn and Bright; “The Builders and Contractors,” proposed bv Dr. Collins and responded to by A Jesses J. AVebb (on behalf of the builders), Westwood (plasterer). Allan (plumbing and electrical installation), and the Al’ayor (for Afessrs F. Hall and Sons, who carried out the ing)Other toasts proposed were: 'Our Hostess," proposed hv the Mayor, and responded to by Mrs AlcCormiek; “The Ladies” and “The Press.” Songs were sung during the evening by Messrs Zachariah, J. S. Allan. A. Sawyer and Tuck, and Alaster McCormick ; a duet was given by the Alisses AlcCormiek; and .recitations by Messrs W. Smith. A. AVebb, and J. A\ . Bright. Ariss AlcCormiek made a capable accompanist. The banquet, which was of a most enjoyable nature, concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and cheers for the Alayor and the hostess. The new rooms will be open for business to-day.
