SPECIAL ADVERTISEMENTS. POVERTY BAY RIVER BOARD. A T the request cf a number of Ratepayers in the River Board District, 1 have consented to nomination for a seat on the River Board. Being a large Ratepayer, 1 will be naturally very interested in any works that may he undertaken. 1 am in favor of the classification of .lands within the district for the purpose of striking a differential rate. I should be also in favor of readjusting the River District boundary, as I consider there are lands now brought within the rating area that should not be. and lands left out that should certainly be included. The first work I should favor being undertaken would be the removal of all obstructions from the river, such as willows, etc., encroaching on the banks at narrow parts. / I .should, if elected, !>.■ very wary before supporting any scheme such as deviating the river from its present course, or building embankments on either side, as I consider such works would he most expensive, and if &ueh were adopted, it would necessarily mean a heavy rate on a comparatively small district. /

TO THE ELECTORS OF THE P. 3. RiVER BOARD. (GENTLEMEN,— At the request of a large number of Ratepayers i)i tlio River District, 1 have consented to become a Candidate for a seat on the Board. I hold that the lands should be classified,, and that the rate, when struck, should be on a differential basis. I am also of opinion that the boundaries should be amended. When it was decided to define a River District, it was agreed that the County Council should constitute the River Board, consequently a large area of land, which should have been included in the River District was left out. It will thus be seen that amendment of the Ixmndaries is imperative. I recognise that something should he done to minimise the danger of floods, but at the same tune feel assured that caution, will have to be exorcised in the adoption of any scheme brought before the Board. ■ * I would favor the coui*-e of the river being cleared of. all obstruction before anv other elaborate scheme is put in hand GILBERT E. JONES.

TO THE ELECTORS OF THE P.B. RIVER BOARD. , I pledge myself as under:— 1. The removal of all willows from the Waipaaa River and the gradual improvement of the River. 2. The classification of rating area into different areas as follows—(a) flooded b v light floods, (b) flooded by Imavy floods, (c) unfloeded land. 2>. I am not in favor of any extensive or costly work, for the reason that the rates, riparian rights, and cost of heavy work would probably be worse than a iiodd, and we have no guarantee that if costly work is undertaken it will be successful ./ . H G. TUOKEK. H-ENTLEMEN vT if If .elected

POVERTY BAY RIVER BOARD. T AM a Candidate for a seat on the T- above Board. The Board soon after election will have to classify the land within its jurisdiction. Cure must be taken to see that those lands most affected by floods shalJhe subject to a higher rate tllanguor lands not so seriously affectecr Whilst realising the importance and necessity of active steps being taken to prevent the recurrence of f the disastrous Heads that this district has suffered from, I consider that the Board m'uat avoid hastily adopting any scheme. The matter'is of such . great importance that the utmost caution must be exercised.^ ARK'S DE LATJTOUR.
