AMUSEMENTS OF PARIS

There are m Paris states an American Consular report, four theatres which receive subventions from the Government, and forty regular theatres which receive no- subvention. There are besides twelve large kinomategraph theatres, thirty-eight cafe concerts, eight music halls, ten .skating rinks, velodromes, and circuses, among which are included the Magic City and Luna Park, both originally American enterprises; six permanent balls or dancing places, including tbe Bal Tabarin, Bullier, and Moulin llouge; and, finally, three classical concerts, the Concert Lamoureaux, Colonne, and the Conservatoire; in -all 121 regular places of amusement. The total receipts collected during 1911 by those various places of amusements exceeded £2,200,000. The poor fund benefited to the extent of £24-0.000. The steady growth of Paris and the devotion of its people and the constant throng of foreign visitors to theatrical and musical entertainments are shown by the fact that the receipts of 1911 from these sources excepting’ even the years 1878, 1889, and 1900, when international expositions of world-wide interest were held in Paris.
