EXPORT OF STUD STOCK.

V QUESTION OF SHIPPING FREIGHTS.

[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 1

.Messrs E. Short. R. T). 1). McLean, and A. Harding, representing the Stock Breeders’ Association, waited on the Premier (the Hon. Hr ■Massey) to-day, urging the Government to make efforts to secure a reduction in tlio present high freights charged by shipping companies on stud stock sent to South America. It was said that there exists in Argentina, and other parts of South America, a steady demand for stud animals of good quality, and that one New Zealand owner recently received inquiry for three to four thousand ewes. It was suggested that during August, September, October and [November direct steamers might call at Punta Arenas to land stock, instead of having animals shipped back from [Monte Video. Five large ranch holders, it was stated, were coming to this Dominion for the purpose of buying stock, and the deputation suggested a conference of business men with these visitors. In some cases freight paid on animals to Monte Video was higher than the value of the stock. The Hon, W. F. Massey promised to look into the matter discussed, and to see. if he could arrange the conference which had been suggested.
