THE SOMMER SHOW.
RECORD ENTRY' LIST. BRIGHT PROSPECTS FOR A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. Tho time for receiving entries for the Poverty Bay A. and P. Society's annual show expired on Saturday evening, and the calculations of Mr. H. E. Dodds and his staff of defies, as given to a “Gisborne Times” representative last evening, show that there has been a liberal increase in almost every class. The following table gives the entries in the various departments and a comparative list for tho past ten years. It is a striking illustration of the steady growth and progress of the Society, which is but a reflection of tho manner in which Poverty Bay is forging ahead:
The figures call for an explanation, since it is stated that the increase is general. Tho fact is that, in several classes, certain exhibits, not entered for competition, have been heretofore catalogued in tho entry list, tho revision taking effect as from this year. In the figures for competitions these have, in previous years, Included as possible competitions such as weight-guessing, etc., while this year’s total concerns purely field events, which are numerously entered for. It will be noticed that iu both 1907 and 1908 the total entries eclipsed those in 1912, but in those years the numbers embraced a great deal more details, including articles of machinery on exhibit, etc. As a matter of fact the latest entry leads easily, and there is every prospect that it will be still further swelled by the reception of postal and late fee entries. While on the point, it will be interesting to quote the following paragraphs, culled from the Society’s rules "Entries ,may be received at double fees for two days after entries close. "Late entries will be received not later than three days prior to the show on payment of .Cl for each entry, members not excepted.” . , , ~ Altogether, prospects point to the show being the most successful to date in every respect. The Society is m a healthy'condition, the membership list having been greatly increased during the past, few weeks. Attention is being paid to the Show Grounds at present, and a number of improvements to be effected will make for the comfort and enjovment of the lieonle in attendance. As"far as entertainment goes, the public will be especially well catered for, there being increases in the jumping and pony classes. A number of sideshows are coming.
