When outside his hotel en route to deliver a political address at the Milwaukee Auditorium Air Roosevelt was shot in the breast by a Socialist. He refused to allow the doctors to examine him and spoke to a huge meeting with tho bullet still in his body. Toward the end of the address he became weak from loss of blood and was removed to bis hotel. His assailant disappeared. Mr Roosevelt’s condition is serious. THE SPIRIT OF PRESIDENT McKINLEY. MR ROOSEVELT’S ASSAILANT’S STRANGE HALLUCINATION. (Received October 15, 9.15 p.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 15. Mr Roosevelt was removed to a temporary 1 mspital. His wound has been pronounced unfatal. He declares that too much fuss is made over a trifling matter. The announcement when the meeting -was in progress that Mr Roosevelt had been shot threw the audience into a panic, but the chairman begged them to remain calm. As Mr Roosevelt continued h’s speech he grew visibly weaker towards the close. The audience frantically cheered when he refused to sit. down. Mrs Roosevelt heard the news when attending the theatre in New York. Tho assailant is a man named Join Schrank, a resident of New York. The mob tried to lynch him, but the police prevented it. When lie was arrested lie dec I u-ad that any man seeking a third term of office ought to be shot. When searched at the police station documents found in his possession showing that lie had a dream wherein President McKinley’s spirit visited him and indicated Mr Roosevelt as President McKinley’s murderer, and asked him to take vengeance on Mr Roosevelt. Schrank is undeniable crazy.
