THE LAND BILL.

FREEHOLD L.I.P. TENANTS. AMENDMENT TO BE MOVED BY MR. MACDONALD. [PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM] WELLINGTON. Oct. 15. Several members have given notice that they will move amendments to the Land Bill when it is being considered by the committee of the whole. The most important will be proposed my Mr MacDonald (Bay of Plenty), who intends to anticipate the policy of the Government for next session by moving to give tenants under the lease-in-per-petuity tenure on settlement lands the right to accjuire freehold. Mr MacDonald is a holder, and he explained this evening in discussion his amendment. Ho cannot understand why the freehold should be withheld from L.1.P.. when it is to be given to those with renewable leases. He is also desirous of dealing with the whole question of land tenure this session instead of allowing it to spread several over several years! Several members of the Opposition expressed approval of Mr MacDonald’s amendment for the latter reason.
