ENTERTAINMENTS.
PATHE PICTURES. Who is there who does hot know the story of the intrepid Dick Turpin and his gallant ride to York? A splendid film descriptive of the early life of the great highwayman forms the outstanding feature in the mid-week change of programme which will make its appearance at His Majesty’s Theatre to-night. The picture is the first of a series of Dick Turpin films, and gives many daring exploits of the dashing outlaw’s career. A fine Yitagraph production, “Counsel for the Defence,” will give unqualified satisfaction. The story tells how a young Society woman, in love with a rising lawyer, crucifies lief affections, and marries an older man for money and position. Her husband is murdered, and the wife is accused of the crime through circumstantial evidence. Her defence is undertaken by her lawyer lover, and so zealously does he enter into the case that an acquittal follows, the real murder confessing to the crime under cross-examination. “Getting the Money” is a clever Kalem comedy, which tells how Tom procured 2000 dollars from Aunt Sally on the pretence that he wanted to take lessons on the pianoforte. The humor of the situation is irresistible. “Alkali Bests Broncho Bill” is another hilarious comedy, the fun in which is provided through the “boys” imagining that a vourig lady who is arriving is a little girl. The dolls and other infantile toys they secure for her reception are scarcely appropriate. Two fine scenic subjects are included in “From Rathan and Schandan” and “Rivers and Canals of Siam.” A new Pathe Gazette is chockful of topical happenings of note in Europe, and the comic element is well supplied by a couple of genuine laughterraisers. A part change will be put on to-morrow evening.
