THE HAWKE’S BAY SHOW.
OPENED YESTERDAY. A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. [PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM] HASTINGS, Oct. 16. ' The Hawke’s Bay annual spring show was opened to-day in cloudy, but • pleasant weather. There was a large attendance and the stock exhibited was well up to the standard, both in quality and number of exhibits. Cattle and sheep were the main features of the show and this year farmeps have como forward with entries in largo numbers with the result that the exhibition is the best known in the history of the Society. In the cattle section the Shorthorn class is the strongest and appears to be the favorite animal with Hawke’s Bay breeders. The thoroughbred horse class is stronger this year than usual and the draught horses class, always a strong feature, is better than ever. In the sheep section the entries of Lincoln. Border Leicester, and English Leicesters are poor, giving a proof of the decline of these breeds in Hawke's Bay. Following wore the awards: CHAMPIONSHIPS. Draught Horse. —J. Short (Bedding); mare, J.
