RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES

CHRISTCHURCH, Oct, 21. Tr:uners were favored with ideal weather at Ricearton this morning, but it being an “off” day there was no fast work accomplished. The plough and tar tracks were thrown open, but the former provided heavy going and most of the work was done on the tan. As usual, E. Cutts was the first out, and be sent Autumnus and Alasterpiece over a circuit of tan at a good half-pace. A’iee-Admiral, Canute and Allegory were indulged in a couple of rounds on-the-same track, the first circuit at a slow pace, but they completed the second round at a useful speed. Canute appeared to bo a trifle lame on the completion of the gallop, but it is understood that the trouble is not serious. Others indulged in useful work before breakfast were: Brown Owl, Hoatherbrae, AVarstep, Stardancer, Martino. Trireme, Scottish Star, Taskmaster, Countermine, Winning AVav, Nightwatch, Martel, Ladv Alarcia, Britain’s Crown, Thrax, Ngataoa, Tannhanser, Pilgrim’s AVay, Carolus, Alay Dalrymple, Specialform, Colleen Alary, Advance Guard, Daylight Bill, Genius, Peg, Dan Cameron, Messina, Editali, Miss Kolmar. Cherubini, Historiette, Peirene, Mumura, Troon, Tcviatdale, Foam Flake and Coroniform. After breakfast the plough track was harrowed and was not available for work. Amongst those out were True Knight,

j Armstrong, Goldpin, Pleasure Bent, j White Cockade, Master Paul, Mowj bray, Early Morn, Tympan, Quaranj tine, Briarpatch, Veritas, Politician, j Aleclallist, Jewel Pin, Pioneer, Query, J Kilts, Chrysotis, Umeraboy, and I Stevedore.

TURF TOPICS

(By “Argus.”) Among the passengers on the Moeraki from Sydney were Messrs Goring, Johnston, J. A. Lucas, J. Pettie, anti E. Luttrell. All were present at the Randwick meeting, which has just concluded. Most of the returned visitors from Sydney (says the “Dominion”) express their opinion that Bronze will be a different- mare at Rieoarton from what she was at Randwick. It will come as no surprise to find her one of the favorites on the day of the New Zealand Cup.

The Moeraki brought hack some fourteen horses which have been racing at the Randwick meeting. They included Allegory, Vice-Admiral, Peirene, and Canute (in charge of R. J. Mason), Adelicia, Gerberga, Bronze, and Ermengarde (in charge of G. Price), Theodore, Midnight Sun, and a two-year-old filly by Prudent King— Emblem (T. I l ’. Quinlivan), Reumac, Sir Lethe and Obsono. Mason’s quartette is to go on to Lvttclijon, and Obsono will proceed to Dunedin. The Highden animals were railed to Trentham, as were Theodore and Midnight Sun, while the Emblem filly goes to Hastings, and Reumac to Feildmg. Allegory, it- transpires, has been giving his trainer trouble, but it is expected that- he will be able to race at Ricearton, and will probably have to carry a few pounds over-weight to secure the services of Deeley. Those who saw him race at Randwick state that there was nothing, brilliant about bis performances, butthey were of the solid order, and the Martian gelding gives the impression that he can stay well. That will bo an important factor in his favor in a two miles race.

Other items of interest obtained from returned visitors to the Randwick meeting were that Shuja goes on to Melbourne for the Caulfield Cup, but is an unlikely starter for the Melbourne Cun.

Paisanoand Continuance are also to be taken to the Caulfield and Flemington meetings. The former is under offer to a Victorian owner, and Trainer Hennah will quit Continuance if ho receives a suitable offer. Mr Alfred Coleman has been airpointed secretary to the Stratford Racing Club.
