A strange custom is still observed in Roumania. When a servant has displeased his or her master, the offender takes his boots in his hands, and places them before the bedroom door of his master. It is a sign of groat submission; and the hoots arc either kicked away as an intimation that the fault will not bo forgiven, or else the servant is told to place them on his feet, which shows that ho is forgiven.
