“THE GEISHA."
LAST NICHT OF THE SEASON ANOTHER BUMPER HOUSE.
After a phenomenally successful four-nights season the Gisborne Amateur Operatic Society last evening told for the last time the dainty sfory of the Garden of Ten Thousand Joys. As on the previous evenings the Theatre was packed from floor to ceiling, and as the curtain was rung down for the last time after enthusiastic “cabs” had been made there were well-voiced regrets that the season could not be extenciqfl. The whimsical opera went again from start to finish with rare verve and -swing. The newly-formed Society is to he congratulated most heartily upon the success which has accompanied its initial production, and lovers of the theatre generally will join in the hope that it will not be long ere the Society’s curtain rolls-up to discover an equally enjoyable entertainment. It is not the intention of those responsible for the etre of the Society to allow all the past work of organisation to slip back into nothingness and though, of course, it is quite impossible to place a now piece under rehearsal immediately the fact will lie kept steadily in view and rumor whispers that the dainty story “Dorothy” will next claim attention.
After "the Show,' freed. from the cares and worries which have been upon them during the past months, but generally full of regrets at the termination of the season, the players were entertained' on the stage. Complimentary speeches were made by Air AV. Miller (president of the Operatic Society), Mr Percy Andrew (stage manager) and Mr AV. Samson (secretary) all of whonvmade reference to the assiduitv with which both the chorus and the principals had rehearsed thoir parts. Dancing was indulged in and the company sat down to a sumptuous supper.
