LABOR DAY.
CELEBRATED IN FINE WEATHER
Yesterday broke clear and 'bracing, and the promise of the morning was fully fulfilled, so that Labor Day could be celebrated in glorious sunshine. As a- consequence, '‘the world and his wife” spent a day out, the call of the country side attracting innumerable picnic parties to enjoy the sweetness of Spring in,the open. The morning saw vehicles of every description proceeding in different directions until at noon the town was almost deserted.
The sports conducted at the Domain were attended bv large numbers of people, including ■many' children,' and the function passed off with a large measure of success. Besides the private picnics, the Operatic Society’s affair at Wainui beach was the scene of much merriment, the large number present putting in a pleasant day of relaxation. y
In the evening the picture shows were crowded, and the social in the Poverty Bay Rowing Club’s shed passed off successfully.
