SOCIAL AND GENERAL.
The engagement of the Archduchess Thla, favorite grand-daugliter of the Emperor Franz Josef, to a young officer of noblo hut not royal blood, lias been followed by the renunciation of her rights by the Princess. The Archduchess is twenty years old and was expected to make a brilliant match, but she fell in love with Count Georg Waldburg-Lustenau-Holienems, a dragoon officer who was the comrade of her brothers during their education. The Archduchess told the secret to her grandfather the Emperor, who supported the engagement against opposition of other members of the Imperial Family.
Big men make the best husbands, while little men with sharp, thin noses should be shunned by women. So says Mrs Anna Murphy, chief police matron, in an official report to the chief of police of Chicago. “Big men, whether it is in business or in matrimony, are easiest to get along with,” Mrs Murphy writes. “They are more likely to be easy going and less irritable and more generous. The little man is more likely to be nervous and fidgety. A man with a sharp, thin nose is apt to lie- a scold. 'Where a man of small- stature is endowed with a nasal organ of this sort you have a had combination. There you have a prize faultfinder.
