THE DEADLY HAT PIN.

ENFORCING THE SYDNEY BYLAW.

300 LADIES NAMES' TAKEN BY POLICE.

Considerable excitement, and no little amusement, was caused to the operations of two policemen, who have been instructed to enforce the city council’s by-law regarding hat pins. Practically the whole of their timo from 12 o’clock to 2 o’clock was occupied in writing down names and addresses of offenders.

Watching the proceedings was an interested, and more or less sympathetic, group of male spectators, who smiled grimly as each fresh name was taken. Some of the ladies stood on their dignity, and refused for a while to give their names. iSomo got excited, and took the constables’ numbers in revenge. Others took it philosophically and tried hard to smile. A few cried, while one lady was so shocked that sho fainted. Since Friday about 300 names have been taken. A large number of offenders will be served with summonses to-morrow.
