Mails for Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin will be despatched per Ripple to-day at 3 p.m.

Sittings of the Supreme Court will be held in Gisborne on March 3, June 24, and September 1, next year. A large number of Gisborne people went South by last night’s steamer for the Christchurch Carnival week. A dozen mules for the. artillery corps in Wellington will be sliipped by the Ripple to-day. They are from Dir. Williams’ Waipiro station.

The Waikohu County Council Chambers has been gazetted a Court under the Magistrate’s Court Act. Constable Doyle has been gazetted Clerk. The Borough officials had a busy day yesterday receiving rates. Between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m..the sum of £-3670 was paid, being the rates due by 260 people. There were 38 births, 10 deaths and 16 marriages in Gisborne last month, against -55 births, 10 deaths and 7 marriages for the corresponding month last vear.

A petition has been received by the Cook County Council from a number of ratepayers in the Taruheru Road district, asking them to merge the district into the County. The arrivals in New Zealand from overseas last month numbered 4123. and the departures 2-506. In September, 1911, there were 3485 arrivals and 291 b departures.—Wellington P. A. wire.

Wootton’s Rooms rang with merriment last evening, when the Girls’ Friendly Society brought a most .successful season to a close. Hie management of the Opera House have decided to admit children to all parts of the theatre on Saturday afternon at the matinee at a charge of threepence, adults being charged the usual rates. A special programme has been prepared for the children, and everything will be done to ensure a happy afternoon’s enjoyment for the juveniles. This will be a good opportunity for parents to allow their children to view the very fine building that the management has erected in Peel Street

The Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Club yesterday afternoon passed a resolution resenting the unfair and disparaging remarks made by some members of the Presbytery with reference to the action of the club in entertaining the Canadian Cadets on Sunday., The club asserts tiiat no notice would have been taken of the Presbytery’s action had the club not been misrepresented. It was decided to seud a statement of the facts to the authorities in Canada. —P.A.
