COMMERCIAL.

MATAWHERO STOCK SALE. There was a large attendance at Matawhero yesterday when the fortnightly sales were held. Altogether 3000 sheep, 470 head of catt’e and 70 pigs were yarded, and a good sale resulted.

Hit're was a fair entry of fat sheep and the demand was good, wethers realising from 22s to 235, and ewes from 16s to 19s 2d for woolly and 11-s lOd to 13s Id for shorn. Among the sales were: Wethers 28 at 23s and 14 at 225. Ewes, woolly 22 at 19s 2d, 20 at 17s sd, 16 at 16s 9d, 10 at 16s 6d and 11 at 16s; shorn 14 at 13s Id and 21 at 11s lOd. FAT CATTLE. The yarding of fat cattle was very small only three cows and one steer being offered. The cows made from £3 15s to £5, and the steer £5 7s 6d. STORE SHEEP.

S tore sheep were not yarded in large numbers and the demand more than equalled the supply, consequently the market was fairly animated. There was only one pen of wethers (twotooths) and they made 17s. Ewes and lambs were in good demand and they made from 16s to 20s 3d. The yarding contained a good proportion of hoggets which made from 13s lOd to 17s, according to size and condition. Among the sales were:—Wethers, 104 2-tooths 175.; ewes and lambs, 23 at 20s 3d. 41 at 18s 9d. 44 at 18s 3d, 107 at 17s Id, 120 at 16s 9d, 206 at 16s; ewes, 23 at 13s 3d, 44 at 13s 274 2-th 11s Id, 46 at 10s 6d, 8 at 9s. PIGS. About 70 pigs were offered and all were disposed of, the demand being very good and the prices realised being the best this year. Good porkers made from 16s to 20s, and extra up to 31s. Smaller sorts made from 12s 6d to 14s. while sows realised from 20s to 40s. Among the were: Porkers, 4 at 3is, 1 at 21s 6d, 24 at 20s, 5 nr, 18s Gel, 6 at 16s, 7 at 14s, 4 at 13s fid, 7 at 32s 6d; sows, 3 at 40s, 1 at 265., 2 at 20s. STORE AND DAIRY CATTLE.

The was a good entry of store and dairy cattle and it included a large number of young animals. On the whole the sale was a fairly good one. Among the sales were:—Steers, £5 12s 6d, 5 calves £2 10s, 1 springing heifer £4 10s, 8 steers £3 12s, 1 dairy cow £7 10s, 1 heifer £6, 3 steers £2 7s 6d, 1 Jersey cow £5 ss, 1 cow £3 10s, 42 steers £2 14s, 15 do- £3 ss, 13 heifers £2 15s, 12 cows and calves £5 Is, 6 heifers £4 10s, 5 dairy cows £5 10s. 4 heiftrs £4 ss, 1 heifer £6 12s 6d, 9 cows £3 17s 6d, 3 steers £3 15s, 1 heifer £3 12s Gd, 2 empty cows £2 12s, 22 heifers-£3 Is, 4 heifers £2 l'4s, 2 heifers £6 2s 6d, 3 do. £6, 2 do. £5 10s, 51 steers £2 15s. 30 heifers £4 10s, 11 do. £3 10s, 2 do. £3 12s, 6 steers £3 17s.

TIMARU SHOW

[PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM] TIMARU, Oct. 31. Fine weather favored People’s Day of the Timaru Show, and the trains brought in thousands from the country. There was an attendance of about 9000, the gate yielding £42o'. The day passed off without serious mishap, but the Ashburton Show clashed, cutting out some competition in draught horses, especially from that quarter, but Oamaru was well represented in draughts. HORSE SALE. Messrs Williams and Kettle, Ltd., draw attention to their entry for Saturday’s Horse Sale, particulars of which appear in another column. Among the many lines they will offer on account of a- client 1 pair smart buggy horses, 3 and 4-year-old, thoroughly reliable, together with a practically new express and harness, also one 2-horso team tip dray, leading and shaft harness.
