An ingenious method is Adopted by the Chicago Telephone Company to hv telephone 'vires. V rot is loosed in a pipe through which a cable is to be placed. A string is tied to a ferl'et, which pursues the rat, carrying the strong through the pipe. On the small string a larger one is attached, and on that a still larger, until a wire cable is pulled through.
