AN ARMISTICE POSSIBLE.
THE POWERS TO MEDIATE
BULGARIA RESENTFUL OF INTERFERENCE.
(Received Nov. 2, 12.30 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 1. The “Daily Telegraph” publishes a statement that the Powers will agree to mediate forthwith and t-o secure an armistice with a view to preventing unnecessary bloodshed, relying on diplomacy to unfold a future settlement. The ' “Standard’s” Constantinople correspondent states that-the appointment of Iviamil as Grand Vizier with his well-known close relations with Britain showed' the Porte’s inclination to negotiate for peace. The “Times’” Sofia .correspondent says the Bulgarians’ triumph has not evoked public demonstrations for fears are expressed that Bulgaria, as in 1885, will possibly be deprived of the reward of victory. Rumors of the imminence of AustroHungarian and Roumanian mobilisation are spreading, and there is little confidence in the Triple Entente _to secure fair play for those risking everything in the cause of freedom. Whether the concert of Europe holds or breaks up the Balkans League will firmly, adhere to its own programme. Vienna reports that the newspapers deduce from the movements of the Turkish columns, following the Bulgarians’ success at Lule Burgas, that Nazim Bey was thoroughly beaten and outmanoeuvred by a flanking attack, and his line of battle was broken, as at Kirk Kilisse. Reuter reports that the Bulgarians at Lule Burgas captured two more trains full of provisions and ammunition. It is reported that the Turks at Constantinople shot 200 Christians belonging to the army defeated at Ivirk Kilisse. Bulgarian artillery, directed l>y a captive balloon and aeroplanes, greatly damaged tho forts at Adrianople.
