A white-haired and feeble old fellow named John Heaphy alias Haffey, was trembling jxuceptibly yesterday morning when he appeared in the Polico Court dock, before Mr. AY. A. Barton, S.M., on a charge of drunkenness —the fourth time within six months — and 1 also for having committed a breach of his prohibition older. The old man, who could not at first hear the charges, and was acquainted of their'purport by a constable, pleaded guilty. His Worship: This man seems to he a slave to drink.
•Sergeant Hutton : And it is no use taking him to the Old People’s Home. He will not stay. . Sergeant Hutton said that accused had just completed a term of 28 days in gaol, for a previous breach of his order.
For drunkenness, accused -was sentenced to two months in Napier gaol and bn the other charge was lined £5 and costs (2s), or one month, tho sentences to be cumulative.
