THE WAIHI INQUEST.

CORONER AND THE NEW ONIOW A PERSONAL DENIAL. INQUIRY ADJOURNED TILL DECEMBER 4.* [PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM] RAIHI. Nov. 20 On tho inquest being resumed LO-d.iv the Coroner mace a statement, saying his attention had been drawn to a matter which had materially affected the inquest and his status -as Coroner. Idle matter to which he referred was a statement published in various newspapers of the Dominion to the effect that.he had been openly accused of being implicated in the organisation of the new Union. He took the opportunity of giving the statement an emphatic denial. ITc had never been accused openly or otherwise of having organised the new Union and had never had the slightest connection with any Union. He understood that application had been made to the Minister for Justice by the Federation to have the inquest held elsewhere than at Waihi. It was obvious that the Minister had the utmost faith in the sense of the justice of the jury and himself, seeing that he had not directed a change of venue or interfered in the- conduct of the inquest-. The evidence of the police, which was then heard, was corroborative of that given by the various witnesses yesterday. M. Rudd (President of the new Union) stated that the men were going to work that morning end had no intention of rushing the Hall. The trouble began as the of offensive language bv a striker at the Union Hall when the workers were passing. At the conclusion of tlm evidence .Mr Mays said that the con ,7 lt’pp of the concession given the Federation in granting the adjournment should bethat the- Federation engage to produce two witnesses —Bar met an I "Waddell. The poire had endeavored to get these witnesses, hut it was obvious that they were irnmn-dy keeping away.

Mr H. E Holland wG tim Federation would do its best to get them along with other witnesses.

The Court then adjourned till December 4.
