THE UNITED LABOR PARTY AND EDUCATION.
(to the editor.) Sir,—l have noticed the letter of ‘'Honest Worker” in yesterday's "Times,'' and also this morning that of Alderman Cute in answer. Now it is a fine thing to be an Alderman, and equally fine to be cute, but our friend will find a difficulty in persuading the majority of X>eople that he is as cute as he supposes.
The dual subject in question between these gentlemen is the United Labor Party and Education. It may therefore be assumed that all those who are interested in these questions are educated men. Let us vary Shakespeare somewhat and say: “Surely he is an educated man.” Having established this it is surely amazing at the first glance to find an alderman—"with good capon lined” —entering the lists which our friend espouses, but a second thought will convince one of the futility of this method of reasoning. One phrase in his letter will simplify matters: “If they heed their leaders they will surely fall into the bottomless pit.” The words are written sarcastically, but they might with the greatest truth be written meaningly. “Capital!” Of course it is capital (for' the leaders). They are the only ones who have anything to gain. Chaos, unrest, and misery appear to be the lot of their deluded followers.—l am., etc., FAITHFUL WORKER.
