MOTU NOTES. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] MOTU, Not. 22. A -well-attended meeting -of the Motu Sports Club was held on Thursday evening, when the President, Mr G. 0. Donovan, presided. The resignation of Mr Wm. Pet-her-bridg-o as secretary and treasurer was received with regret and a fresh appointment was deferred until next meeting. It was unanimously carried to have music supplied from Gisborne. The programme, which was drawn up by a sub committee, was discussed and with a few alterations and additions, will be put into the printers’ hands straight away. Over £’4o is allotted in prize money besides several valuable trophies, so all the events should draw a large number of competitors from the different parts of Poverty Bay. The committee decided to wind up the day’s sport with a ball in the evening, first class music to bo supplier from Gisborne. After discussion on a few less important items the meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the (hair. Another meeting will be held cn Thursday evening, 28th inst.
..TOKOMARU. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] TOKOMARU BAY, Nov. 22. The Anglican Church Trustees hold a meeting yesterday afternoon and are most sanguine -now about securing a site for the church. A meeting of the Native assembled owners agreed to a site for the Church being put througa the court. The trustees nave purcha-s. ed 70,000 bricks from Bull Bros., and plans for the proposed church are under the consideration of the Trustees. The Rifle Club is an established success. Great improvements was evident in the shooting at the range yesterday. Mr Henderson’s trophy was won outright by Mr Brydone. Mr Ben Taylor’s challenge belt is a very handsome trophy. Mr A. B. vVjlliam.s’ gives very generous money prizes for first and second best shot during the year or who has attended the most drills and shows the most meritorious work as a- member of the Club. A visit is expected shortly from a few of the Gisborne enthusiastic rifle shots and this is being looked to with pleasure.
A very popular picture show has been opened at the New Zealand Shipping Company’s fine new wool store and it has been well patronised. The European and' Native schools are working hard for the promotions at the end of the year, Mr H. Fairlie’s gold medal being an incentive to the upper standards in the district school and the infant children are being spurred on to win Mr Oates’ gold medal. The latter gentleman gives annually to 'the Native schools valuable trophies and has recently added the annual gold medal. Air Oates has contributed generously to the district school prize fund for many years.
