Captain Probert, of the dredger Maui. left, by .Saturday’s steamer to meet his wife, who has been absent in Australia, on account of ill-health. Mr A. Dewing has gone to Auckland. whore lie will consult a specialist regarding his eyes, which have given him tome trouble of late. Mr. W. Winks, who has. during his short stay in Gisborne, associated himself in sporting matters, left for Auckland on Saturday, on transfer to the Queen City. Rev. W. Grant, after attending the meeting of the Presbyterian General Assembly, returned on Saturday. Rev. Mr Walker was a passenger by the same steamer.

In the afternoon Mr Massey attended a garden party given in honor of the Reform Party at the residence of Mrs Brigham, Parnell. 'l'lio funeral of Father Venning, who was killed through <a motor cycle acci-dent-oil Thursday night, took' place at V ellington yesterday afternoon and was attended by a very large crowd of people, while representatives of the various societies witli which the deceased was connected were present. Father Venning was accorded military honors, having been chaplain to the sth (Wellington) Regiment.—P.A.
