The Engineer reported ns follows : During the month the dredge Maui has been engaged working as follows: From October 24 to November 5. pumping sand out of the entrance channel as the tides suited, total time pumping 22\- hours. On November 6th moorings were run out in the entrance channel preparatory to working at the rock, but as the weather was not suitable for working there the Maui resumed work in the inner basin on the Kaiti side. Moorings have been laid for drogding past the Tu a tea’s berth on the town side. Dredging work has been stopped for two days owing to had weather, and for on 2 day to put on a new blade of port propeller, a blade having been broken on the Bth inst. The amount of spoil taken cut this month totals 15,300 tons, chiefly stiff blue clay. The John Toivnley has been employed dredging alongside the Kaiti and town wharves, and Las lifted and deposited at sea 20 beds of soft material. She has been stopped for three days repairing crane, and two days owing to bad weather. 'J wo spare blades for til© port propeller have been ordered from Messrs Fraser and Co., Auckland, as they hold the pattern and templates. A new bottom roller path and phiion will shortly he required for the John Townlev and the chairman has authorised these being ordered through Messrs Andersons, Ltd., the manufacturers oft lie dredge. A new garb is required for this dredge of one cubic yard capacity, English cost about £l4O. I recommend that this be ordered from Stoddart and Pitt. Aa the Maui will shortly be drogding near the Tuatea’s berth, it becomes necessary to berth the fishing boats and small craft on the Kaiti . This will necessitate the extension of the watermanr on the Kaiti side so that these, boats can take in water there. jL'he estimated cost of this is £SB. r nd tho Board’s authority is requested to proceed with the work The report was adopted with the exception of the clause dealing with the extension of the watermain rll the Kaiti wharf, and this was allowed to stand over.
