TO AWE THE MONGOLIANS.
INDEPENDENCE MOVEMENT,
CHINA MAKES A DEMONSTRATION.
[INDEPENDENT PRESS CABLE] LONDON, Nov. IS
The Chinese Government, consequent on the" pressure of public opinion; has been compelled to make a military demonstration in Alongolia. It has therefore concentrated 10,000 troops at Kalgan, and has also issued secret orders to the second, third, and fourth divisions, which are about to proceed to Inner Alongolia. The princes, dukes, and dignitaries of Alongolia. have issued a manifesto declaring that the rebel community that is claiming independence represents less than one-tentli of the Alongolian population, and that they therefore, on behalf of the rest of the people, decline to recognise the treaties made between Russia and the rebels.
[lCalgan is in the province of Chi-li, 125 miles north-west of Pekin. It is a very populous centre, and is divided by a river into a Mongol and a Chinese town, both of which are fortified.]
