AUCKLAND. NoV. 27. The Takapuna Jockey Club’s Spring Meeting opened to-day. The weather prospects were not good in the morning, but by mid-day the conditions were ideal for racing, there being no wind and little sun. The track was in fair condition, and there was a big attendance. The totalisator handled £17,2111, as against £12,3554 for the corresponding day last year. With half a furlong covered Virtue was in front, and not being afterwards troubled won by three lengths, with The Whip a length away. Time 1.46 2-35.

Captain Paul and Heyboy comprised the leading division three furlongs from home, with Hunakaha handy. The latter led into the straight from Hyperion, the pair fighting out a desperate finish. Entering the straight Goldsize and Jolie Fille were well in front, but at the distance La Reina got on terms and went on to win by two lengths, with a head between second and third. Time 2.11 2-5.

Cambria Handicap of 110 sovs, for two-year-olds, four furlongs.—l 11. deLautour’s b f Lady Alicia by Obligado-Lady Alys 8.6 (Deeley) 1, 5 R. Hannon’s eh f Rose de Guerre 7.5 (Trigger) 2, 4 D. McKinnon's b c Marshal McDonald 7.10 (Conquest) 3. Also started: 3 Marconi 8.10, 2 Rosea 7.10, 6 Kia Kaha 7.10, 7 Obdurate 7.10. Lady Alicia was the first to begin, but with two furlongs covered Rose de Guerre shot to the front and led into the straight by three lengths. Lady Alicia, however, caught her at the distance and won by three lengths, the' second horse with Marshal McDonald and Kia Kaha finishing almost in a line.. Time 52 1-5. Melrose Handicap of 100 sovs, 5J furlongs.—3 A. B. Carley's gr g Bluestone by Bluclight-Flivt 4yrs 8.12 (Conquest) 1,-2 F. C. Davis’ br g Paoli 3yrs 8.11 (McMillan) 2, 1 D. J. Lynch’s ch f Tripoli 3yrs 8.4 (Buchanan) 3.
