I Messrs Gilbert Anderson and Co. report under date London, October 18:The prominent feature in the meat trade is the very large increase in supplies of fresh meat, British bred. The weeks ending September 28 show an increase over the corresponding weeks of last year of 522 tons, October 5, 522 tons, October 12, 747 tons. This great increase is mainly owing to large quantities of cattle, sheep, and lambs killed in Ireland I and sent to London as dead meat through the restrictions caused by foot and mouth disease outbreak. The demand for frozen meat therefore suffer;; le a very considerable extent. LONDON DAIRY PRODUCE MARKET. Messrs AA r . AA'eddell and Co’s weekly market report under date London. Oct. 18. is as follows ; Butter. —The demand for strictly “choicest” Australian and New Zealand butter continues good, but the quantity of this quality, either arriving or in cold store, is very small. For lower qualities there is no change from the slow demand of the past months. Prices for salted Australian range from 112 s at 116 s pox cwt. unsalted is 4s higher. - Arrivals this week consist of 1,236 boxes from Australia. Shipments this week advised by cable amount to 30,125 boxes from Australia and 27,200 from New Zealand. For the corresponding • week last year the figures were: Australia 17,470, and New Zealand 27.600. As in the case of. Australian butter, the demand in our markets for “choicest” Foreign butter is firm, but other grades meet with little inquiry. The total arrivals of butter for the past four weeks were 31,658 c\yts. loss than lor the corresponding period last year. Arrivals of British Dominion butter were 25,806 cwts. less and Foreign 5.852 loss. The arrivals from the following Foreign countries for the four weeks this year compared with last year show great irregularities, though the total is almost identical, being only 16 cwts. more. Siberian is 14,463 cwts. less; ; Danis}!, 4,147 less; and Swedish is 780 j less; French, however, is 17,27 cwts. more; Dutch. 1,428 more; and Argentine 400 more. The other countries differ only slightly from last year. Cheese. —The market for Canadian cheese is quiet, with prices on the easy side, and “choicest” white is selling at 64s and 655, and colored 64s and 66s per cwt. There is no New Zealand on the spot, but there is, in some quarters, a desire to sell forward, and sales have already been made ex “Turalcina,” due October 31, as low as 635. per cwt. r i.f.
