AUCTIONS ON WEEKLY HALFHOLIDAY.

INTERESTING M AG ISTERIAL

DECISION

[PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM! TIMARU, Nov. .28

Air V. G. Day, S.M., gave decision to-day in a case against a Dunedin firm for conducting auctions of goods on the half-holiday afternoon. He held that holding a casual auction at people’s houses on the halfholiday was not a breach of the Shops' and Offices Act, but auctions lasting for days were a breach and so also was the displaying of such goods to be sold on some other day. He entered a conviction and a fine of £l.
