NOTES.
The s.s. Wanaka, which left the Bluff for Auckland on Wednesday, will call at Gisborne if sufficient cargo offers.
The Westport Coal Co’s Regulus arrived yesterday with bunker coal for the Harbor Board and leaves on the return voyage to-day. The s.s. Rosamond leaves Auckland today for Tologa Bay and Gisborne, being due here on Sunday. On completion of her discharge she leaves for Auckland direct. The s.s. Kowhai leaves Dunedin on Monday for Gisborne via the usual ports. The s.s. Ripple, owing to delay in Wellington, will not arrive at Gisborne until to-morrow.
The Spuall, at present on the Coast, does not call at Gisborne this trip, but returns to Auckland from Tologa Bay.
The Tyscr Go's steamer Marere is due from Napier on Wednesday to load frozen mutton for Home. The Shaw, Savill steamer Karamea is due from Napier to-day. The schooner Orete goes on the Gisborne slip for overhaul to-day. The scow r Alert is timed to leave for Ngunguru to-day. The steamer Ihumata was to have left Sydney on Saturday last for Newcastle to load coal for Gisborne. HOME SHIPPING RETURNS.
The returns compiled by “Lloyd’s Register of Shipping:,” which only take into account vessels the construction of which has already been begun, show that, excluding warships, there were 505 vessels of 1,846,829 tons gross register under construction in the United Kingdom at the close of the quarter ende 30th September, 1912. Of these 487 are steamers, 478 being of steel, none of iron, and 9 of wood or composite. Of the total 358 are for the United Kingdom, 25 for British colonies, and the remainder for foreign countries. Included in the total under construction are 2 vessels of 40.000 tons and over, 1 between 30,000 and 40,000 tons, and 9 between 15,000 and 20,000 tons. There are 12 British warships under construction at Royal Dock Yards, having a total of 122,240 tons displacement. There are also 13 men-o’-war for foreign owners having a like tonnage. At private j'ard sthere are 57 British warships being built, with a total of 254,648 tons displacement, and there are 69 for foreign countries, having a total of 372,298 tons displacement. Details of vessels under construction at various ports abroad show that Germany is in the lead with 101, while America is next with 85.
