STRIKING INCREASE IN EXPORTS OF MANUFACTURES.

Great Britain sent out £5,407,060 worth of manufactured goods more in September last than in September, 1911. according to the trade returns. The total exports rose by £6,385,060 to -£43.204,000 (as compared with £24.600,000 in September, 1900). the imports for the month increased by £3.505,000 to £57,185,000. and re-ex-ports advanced by £216,000 to £8,035.000, says “Lloyd’s Weekly.” Further, it is shown that during the first nine months of the year the volume of British trade is represented by the colossal figure of £966,000,000. During this period Imports have risen £39,570,000 to £528.965.000. Exports have risen £23,104,000 to £354,283,000. Re-imports have risen £5,386,000 to £82,920,000. .

In September iron and manufactured exports gained £1,405.816; other metals, £232,717: machinery. £756,186; cotton goods, £669,316: new ships, £384.792: electrical goods and apparatus, £277.024: railway carriages and trucks, etc.. £266.316: cutlery £194.674; wool, £183,679; chemicals, £175.175; and earthenware and glass, £106,591. The total imports for the month increased 6.52 per cent., the gain in raw materials amounting to £1,711,325. On_ the other hand, cotton has declined £242,005, and oil, seeds, nuts, o’, : ls, fats, and gums are £128,371 lower. Manufactured articles have increased £1,421",971, including iron and steel, £338,493; cutlery, £167,251; silk, £107,861; wool, £65,554; other textile materials, £140,986; railway carriages and trucks, motor-cars, cycles, carts, etc., £100,302; chemicals, £81,239. paper, £77,384; and machinery, £62,033; but metals other than iron and steel declined £233,210. Food, drink, and tobacco showed a. net increase of only . £331,021, although grain and flour' improved as much as £1,249,988. We received more wheat, from the United States. Argentina,, the British East Indies, New Zealand, and Canada, and 226,800 cwt. came to hand from Chili, against nil a ‘year ago; while the quantity from Russia, Turkey, and Australia was reduced. Germany and Australia sent us more wheat meal and flour, but the consignments from Franco, the United States, and 'Canada were smaller. The maize shipments from Russia and the United States were diminished, Imt Argentina sent us 4,540,300 cwt., against nil last year.
