CR. COLLINS' MUNICIPAL ATTITUDE.

CTO THE EDITOR.) . Sir There seems to be a lot of interest taken in the attitude at present assumed by Cr. Collins in municipal matters, and all kinds of rumors and conjectures are afloat as to one meaning of it all. One statement made is that relations are strained between Cr. Collins and his “advisory committee, ’’ and that the latter have “chucked it,” and have, sent in their resignations. This was only to be expected, in view of the ridiculous action of the councillor and his advisory committee at the outset in demanding the dismissal of the Borough Engineer without giving any tangible reason. The rebuff they received at the hands of the Council has _ evidently had a salutary effect, especially when they realise that their arbitrary action has resulted in the .Engineer s position being made more secure, and that lie now enjoys the confidence of nine-tenths of the ratepayers. In any case, the farce of setting up a committee to advise Cr. Collins was one of the quaintest instances of Bumblemindedness that even our local records can show. The boasts made during the late election by Cr. Collins and Ins friends as to the great reforms to be introduced in the Borough Council have not borne fruit, but many did not take the doctor seriously, especially after stringing us on day after day with a promise to divulge the schemes hatched at midnight by some councillors in Mr. and then telling us nothing. In “skying the wipe,” as they say m fistic parlance, Cr. Collins’ cake is dough when lie faces the electors again.—l am, etc., “ANTI-LEG-PULLER.”
