WELLINGTON, Dec. 6,

At the wool sales to-day 10,926 bales were catalogued and about 60 buyers were present, representing English, American, and Continental firms. Competition was good, though not so good as was expected. The most clamant demands came from buyers for Yorkshire and for the New Zealand woollen mills. Continental buyers, for the most part-, were represented at the opening of tlie sale by purchases of prices and bellies. For the finer grades of wool the rise is about Id per pound on last December prices. A greater advance was looked for in this direction, outon all coarse and. medium crossbred wool there was a rise of l|d to 2d per pound ns compared with the prices realised at last year’s corresponding sales.

Half-bred prices to-day opened at 113 dto 12d and 121 d per lb., best crossbred 10d to 103 d, Romney super. 10fd to ll|d, coarse crossbreds 9d to 9£d, half-breds. bellies and .pieces 83d to 9d. and crossbred bellies and pieces 7Vd to Bld, first crutcliings 7id.

The following is the range of prices as compared with the corresponding sale of last year (last year’s figures being shown in parenthesis):—Half-bred super (10Jd to lljd) • —; half-bred medium (9kl to 10Jd). 10'd to 12d; Romney super.
