THEATRICAL ATTRACTIONS FOR GISBORNE.

SOME RARE TREATS IN STORE

Mr W. Miller, who returned from an extended trip South yesterday', leaves by the steamer for North this morning for Australia.

Chatting to a “Times” reporter yesterday, the popular entrepreneur stated that while in the South lie had been successful in arranging with Messrs J. and N. Tait that the famous contralto, Madame Kirkby Lunn to visit Gisborne with her talented concert company' on January' 10. Arrangements had also been made for the visits of such woi’ld-famous artists as Madame Clara Butt- and Mr Kennerley Rumford in May next; Mr John McCormack, the brilliant Irish tenor, in September; and Mr Harry' Lauder, the great Scotch in 1914. It had also been arranged that two of J. C. Williamson's attractions and that of another firm now doing very big business in Australia should come on to Gisborne at early dates.

Speaking of Madame Kirkby Limn, Mr Miller said: "It is impossible to say too much about this great singer. If you have soul at all, it is impossible to listen to her and remain cold and passionless; there is such a depth of passion in her voice that she gets hold of you in spite of yourself. Ever the man or woman who knows not a note of music is completely carried away. Mj' experience of platform singers is that all the voice and all the training in the world will not give the artist what Madame has, that is a personality that is felt as soon as she takes the platform. She seems to sing from her very heart, and reaches the hearts of her audience easier than any other singer 1 have ever heard. While she was singing ‘The Three Fishers’ to a vast audience in the Wellington Town Hall on Tuesday last, it is Quito safe to say that there was hardly a dry eye in the building. The Gisborne people have a rare treat in store for them, as Madame is supported by a very brilliant company.” Mi 1 Miller leaves by the steamer for North this morning for the purpose of making arrangements for further operations in the theatrical business in Australia. He hopes to return to Gisborne early in the New Year to give effect toseveral new enteritises in catering foe the amusement ojr. tw; publio. /
