THE TIMARU STRIKE
“IN THE INTERESTS OF DISCIPLINE.”
[PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM] TIMARU, Dec. 9. The wharf strike was declared off to-day. Air Webb (president of the Federation) met tho men and pointed out that the strike had not been authorised by the Federation and in the interests of discipline the men should resume work. Recognising the force of Mr AVebb s argument the men agreed to resume. No steamer was in till the Karamea came in this evening. After the stock sale at Pleasant Point to-day the farmers present'hold ,a meeting' and roundly condemned the strike and decided that arrangements ought to he made to gpt men in from the country at once in case any future strike on the wharves as such stoppages of the port business affect farmers materially. At -a meeting of farmers in town on Saturday if was said that 400 to -500 men ecu Id he got in a couple of hours if" necessary
