BALL AT MAKARAKA

AX ENJOYABLE FUNCTION. The plain and fancy dress ball held at Makaraka last evening proved very enjoyable. There was a fair attendance, and dancing was indulged in with great zest till an early hour this morning. Mr W. Ashdown performed the onerous duties of M.C. in an efficient manner, and capital music was supplied by Mr E. Sharpies, who also rendered an excellent song during the evening. An appetising supper was provided by Mr Erskine, of Wae-renga-a-hika, giving entire satisfaction. Among those who were responsible for the enjoyment of those present were Messrs C. Johnson, H. Moore, H. D. Robinson, and Mesdames Cl. Johnson and Thompson. Mr. B. Stegall made an energetic secretary. Among the most noticeable costumes worn were the following: Mrs C. W. Johnson, black satin and Hack jet trimmings. Miss Johnson, shantung. Miss B. WarJrobe, pale blue satin and sequin trimmings. Miss O’Donnell, cream voile. Miss D. Jones, pink ninon. Miss Knox, pink buttercloth. -Uiss Sullivan, cream poplin. Miss K. McKenzie,_ of “Seaforth,” Ormond, blue silk, white lace collar. Mrs Hamilton, grey ninon. Misses Mclntosh (2), cream ninon. Miss Kane, chocolate voile. Miss G. Wardrobe, champagne poplin. Miss O’Briep, saxe blue silk. Miss L. Kane, cream muslin. Miss N. Cooper, cream. Miss G. Cooper, pale blue muslin. Miss Stevenson, pink silk, overdress of ninon. Miss W. Knox, cream. Miss M. Knox, white embroidery. Mrs Sharplin, cream. Extras were exquisitely played by Misses E. Stevenson and L. Kane.
