NOTES
'The ferry steamer Takapuna arrived from Napier yesterday morning and left on the return journey at 8.10 p.m.
The Shaw, Savill steamer lonic arrived from Lyttelton yesterday to load for Home markets, and will probably sail to-day. The ketch Coronation arrived from Mercury Bay with timber yesterday after a fine weather voyage. The s.s. Tarawera is due this morning from Napier, .and will be tendered at 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. The following have booked by the Tarawera for the “North: For Auckland: Misses T’hode, L. M. Marshall. Prime' and Baker; Captain and
Mrs Allsop, Mr and Mrs D. Day, Messrs Walshaxv, Buena!!, Maunscll, and Squirrel; for TolcomaruLMisa Geissler. The s.s. Monowax is due to-morrow afternoon from Auckland, and leaves later for the South.
The s.s. Kittavva leaves Napier to-night for Gisborne, with timber from Greymouth, and proceeds to Auckland. The Itosamond is due to leave Auckland to-day for Tologa Bay and Gisborne, from where she sails to Whangaroi. The s.s. Ripple is due this morning from the South. The schooner Orete arrived yesterday with wool from the Coast for the lonic. The s.s. Keg ulus arrived last evening with coal from Westport.
The Takapuna left from the Kaiti side of the wharf last evening. The stern line broke, but no-one, fortunately, was close by. Mr W. F. Cameron, late third engineer of the Tarawera, has joined the Moana in a similar capacity, vice Mr S. Sellers, who has come ashore.
Mr li. Lewis, late fourth engineer of the Aorangi, has been promoted to be third of the Tarawera.
Says Tuesday's “Dunedin Star":— “Moura, s.s., was in a bustling state of fuss and flurry this morning at Port Chalmers. She was berthed at the George Street wharf. JTer propellers were churning the water at full-speed velocity, steam crackled and spluttered in the process of testing the steam valves, and presently the whistle tooted and shrieked and wailed. The vessel xvas being tested by prospective purchasers, and in connection therewith she proceeded outside the harbor limits this afternoon to carry out steaming and speed tests." The schooner Amelia Sims arrived from Havelock with timber yesterday afternoon, and was towed to the wharf at 7.20.p.m.
