TE HAPARA CHURCH.
MEETING LAST NIGHT. A meeting was held in the Te llapara schoolroom last evening for the purpose of considering the proposed building of a church and the appointment of a curate in connection with the English Parish. Itev. L. Dawson Thomas presided, and there was a fair' attendance. The chairman explained the object of the meeting, lie said a couple oi' sites were offered in Wellington Street and also one in Mill Road. After considerable discussion it was decided to leave the matter over until a later date.
Mesdames Newton and Lunn and Messrs Bartlett and Hepburn were appointed a committee to wait on the Vestry at their next meeting to be held on January 6 in order to secure their assistance. Mr Thomas then laid before the meeting a scheme for securing three curates for the Mangapapa, Haiti and Te Ha-para districts, the £wo former to have an ordained man and the latter a student. The vestry proposed to contribute £IOO towards the total cost and the suburbs to find the balance. Considerable discussion ensued and it was decided to upheld the scheme and to canvass the dist-kt for subscriptions. The meeting was not in favor of a student for the Te Hapara distrkr. and it was decided that an ordained m>n should be asked for. It is proposed that the sene nt should be carried out for three j ears, and continued at the expiration of that time, if successful.
