TOLOGA BAY v. TOKOMARU BAY.

[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] TOKOMARU BAY, Dec. 16. The match between Tologa and Tokomaru, which was postponed on account of fon Nov. 30, was played at Tokomaru on Saturday last, resulting in a win for Tokomaru by 242 runs. The weather was beautiful. The ground had beeta well rolled and was in really good condition. A great amount of work has been done this season on the ground and it is quite a pleasure to field on it. An addition has been made to the pavilion, and the cricket field is altogether much improved. Tologa won the toss and sent Tokomaru to the wickets, W. Oates and S. Hill being the first batsmen. Hill made 15 in good style before being bowled. Keane, the new comer, made some good strokes but was not playing as well as usual. He put together 15 before Parry caught him at slip. L. Reed played a full toss from Nelson on to his wicket. Coombe, the next man, forced things somewhat, and gave two or three chances in making his 20. He called W. Oates for a short run, and the run being attempted Oates was badly run out after playing a sound defensive innings. Oates batted well for over an hour for the small score of 27, gave no chances, and considerably wore down the bowling. Jackson came in, only to see Coonibe lift one to H. Nelson, which was accepted. J. Oates, joined Jackson and the stand of the day -was made. The partnership added 167 for the sixth wicket, which is a record for the Coast, as is Tokomaru’s total for one innings. Jackson played a very fine innings for 107, and hardly gave a chance. He plays a good straight bat, drives well along the carpet, and' has some good strokes on the off. He is a decided acquisition to Coast cricket, and will give Gisborne some trouble when the Coast invade that town. Joe Oates (64) also played a good innings and was steadier than usual. He gave one or two chances, and though usually a big hitter contented himself on this occasion with only one six. This is the soundest innings he has played. Cargo and Drabble, the not out men, made 26 and 11 respectively, and scored their runs quickly. With seven wickets down for 310, Tokomaru declared their innings closed. Parry bowled splendidly for Tologa, and was unlucky in not getting any wickets. Several chances off his bowling were badly mi: - t-d in the field, and at one stage <>i the game In had bowled 12 overs for 14 runs. 11. Nelson took 4 wickets, ami Id. Nelson and Guthrie one each. Tologa Bay on going to the wickets could only make 68, H. Nelson being top scorer with 34. He played a good innings, hit three sixes, and was the only batsman to reach double'figures.
