ST. PATRICK’S DAY SPORTS.

TO BE HELD NEXT YEAR. OFFICERS APPOINTED. A large and enthusiasitc. meeting was held at the Royal Hotel last evening to consider the question of holding St. Patrick’s Day sports in Gisborne next year. Sir James Carroll presided, and after thanking them for electing him to the chair outlined the objects for which the meeting wa.s called. It was decided to hold the sports, and the date will he decided later. A subscription list was opened and £BO was quickly subscribed by those present, which is a good indication of the enthusiasm displayed for the success of the .sports. The following officers were elected: — Patron: Sir James Carroll, President: Rev. Father Lane; vice-presidents, Rev. Father Carron, Messrs D. J. Barry, C. Neenan, C. Caulton, C. J. Parker, D. J. Parker, P. McLoughlin, T. Quirk, Geo. Matthewson, J. Guthrie, P. Maher, G. B. Oman, A. Gallagher, T. G. Lawless, Williams, J. Cassidy, Jordan, J. H. Martin, Jas. Kiely, F. Harris, W. Pettie, W. Webb, J. B. Leydon, D. Hepburn, Crawford, E. P. Joyce, M. Angland, D. Dinan, J. Maynard, J. Nisbett, H. Heeney and G. AVildish; executive, T. G. Lawless, J. J. Martin, H. Hull, T. Haisman, H. Candy, junr., D. Sexton, C. Neenan, P. Guthrie and M. Doyle., with power to add; treasurer, Rev. Father Danes joint secretaries, Messrs Henderson and Jordon. It was decided that the executive should interview the Council to see if the Childer’s Road Reserve would be properly fenced and available for the sports.
