Talisman 36s 9d and 35s 9d, Crowns Is 7d and Is 3d, May Queen 9d and sjd, Sylvia Is and Is Oid, Occidental Is and lid, Saxon 9d and 6d. Waiotahi 2s 5d and 2s 4d, Waitangi lOld and 9d, Watchman 2s 4d and 2s 2d, Eoss 4s 9d and 4s 7d, Hauraki Beefs 6d and 2d, Ditto (paid) 9d and 4d. WELLINGTON, Dec. 19. Mr A. T. Bate (Mr W. Lissant Clayton, local agent) reports:— Mercantile buyer 30s, Ditto (paid) buyer 295, seller 31s), Christchurch Gas buyer 160 s, seller 1655, Palmerston Gas buyer 1755, National Insurance buyer 41s, South British seller 745, Standard seller 32s 3d, Kaiapoi (pref) seller 105 s (sale 104 s), Taringamutu buyer 44s 6d seller 45s 6d, Wairarapa Farmers’ seller 1455, Caledonian buyer Is 2d. Murray Creek buyer 4s, Talisman seller 26s 6d, Waihi buyer 335, seller 33s 6d, Junction buyer 225, seller 22s 6d, Waitangi buyer 9d, seller lOd MATAWHERO STOCK SALES. There was a large attendance at the Matawliero stock sales yesterday, when 5200 sheep, 700 head of cattle, and 46 pigs were offered. Fat Sheep. There was a fair yarding of fat sheep, which sold as follows: —Ewes 12s 2d to 14s 9d, Wethers 15s 9d, and lambs 12s 6d. Fat Cattle. The yarding of fat cattle was fairly good, but the demand was poor. Among the sales were: 1 cow £4 7s 6d, 1 do. £4 10s, 1 do. £8 7s 6d, 1 do. £4 17s 6d, 1 bullock £8 15s, 5 do. £8 ss. Pigs. There was a good yarding of pigs, and everything offered was sold. The sales were: 1 porker 255, 5 do. 20s, 4 small pigs 10s 6d. 4 do. 10s, 4 do. 12s. 6 do. 9s, 7 porkers 395, 15 weaners 7s 6d. Store Sheep. There was a medium yarding of store sheep and the demand was very poor. The sales were: 271 forward ewes 12s 6d, 39 ewes and lanibs 7s 6d, 92 ewes Ss lOd, 99 forward ewes 11s Bd, 6 cull ewes 3s 9d, 32 ewes and 6 lambs Us, 271 2-tooth ewes 13s, 25 mixed 2-tooths 8s Bd. Store and Dairy Cattle.

There was a good yarding of store and dairy cattle, and the sale opened somewhat dully, but ilvened up towards the end. Among the sales were: —1 dairy heifer £5, 21 yearling steers £3 12s, 25 steers £4 17s, 21 heifers £4 ss, 25 do. £4. 19 do. £4 ss, 1 two-year-old bull 8J guineas, 6 cows £3 10s, 15 dairy heifers £4. 17 steers £5 Us, 3 cows £4 7s, 2 calves 275, 17 bullocks £5 17s 6d, 16 heifers £2 15s. 41 steers £2 10s, 7 empty cows £3 15s, 9 heifers £3 Us, 2 steers £5 15s. 5 do. £3 ss. 7 do. £3, 24 mixed calves 30s, 5 cows and calves £3 15s, 5 Jersey heifers £4 Bs, 2 heifers £3 3s, 3 calves 31s.

LONDON TALLOW SALES. [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION COPYRIGHT] LONDON, Dec. 18. At the tallow sales 1045 casks were offered and 701 sold. Prices were unchanged. MELBOURNE WOOL SALES. MELBOURNE, D°r. 19. The year’s wool sales closed with a strong demand. Prices for all good sorts are ecjual to the highest of the series. The next sale will be held on January 13.

NATIONAL MUTUAL LIFE ASSOCIATION. [PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM] WELLINGTON, Dec. 19. Mr. Orton Stevens, manager of the National Mutual Life Association, has received the following cable from Melbourne: The forty-third annual meeting was held to-day. and members are to be congratulated on the splendid results for the year, which is a record one for the Association. The business amounts to £3.593,000, being £150,000 increase oyer last year. The total of premiums was £954,000, showing an increase of £58,000. The interest received was £329,000, the rate of interest earned being higher than last year. Notwithstanding the large amount of new business, the expenses of management are lower than any previous year. The total funds now stand at £7,291,000. *" LONDON - WHEAT MARKET. (Received Dec 19. 10.30 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 19. "Wheat is firm, and there is a better demand for Australian new crop. Three cargoes sold'at 36s 9d, 375, and 37s 3d.
